First of all, this is not a scam.

Generally, your spidey senses should be tingling when a post starts with a disclaimer, which says it is not a scam.

But, trust us, having the rock star life of traveling while still being able to work and earn a living is 100% real.

For most, it is a dream, while for some who have found the right path and made the right decisions, it is a dream life come true.

Welcome to the life of a digital nomad.

First of all, for the uninitiated, what is a digital nomad?

A digital nomad is a person who works remotely for an employer submitting his work and deliverables online or through the internet.

Some digital nomads are not just employees, but internet-powered employers who run their own startup or office online.

Being a digital nomad means living a life where you are not physically tied up in the daily 9 to 5 grind, but still have the responsibilities of being a productive adult and actually earning a decent and for some, sometimes ridiculously high paying salaries.

Why tie yourself to a chair and lock yourself in a cubicle while working when you can be sipping mai tai and cocktails, toes in the sand and salt on your skin in a beach in Thailand?

Sound promising and easy? Yes and no.

While the digital nomad lifestyle sounds wonderful and amazing, just like any other work in the corporate world, you have to earn your bones to be here.

Just like in the real world, you would need skills. And just like in the real world, you would need two sets of skills.

The first skill set that you would need when starting on the path to becoming a digital nomad is, “life skills.”

You will need to enhance or develop your patience, adaptability, time management, and more importantly self-discipline.

There are a lot of opportunities to earn money online, but you have to be patient and you must learn how to manage your time especially when you are just starting.

Money won’t just automatically rain on you once you work.

Beginners would find that entry-level jobs or projects are low paying and you would need to work multiple projects especially when you are just establishing your name and reputation as an online worker.

Once, you successfully make the transition, you would need to develop proper time management and discipline to keep track of your deliverables and make sure that you finish projects on time.

That blue-eyed blonde’s offer of another round of beer might be tempting, but don’t forget you don’t need the hangover when you’re trying to beat a client’s deadline.

It’s easy to get carried away by the fun and the sun when living the digital nomad life, so be careful.

Next set of skills would be your actual professional skills.

You can’t do online jobs if you don’t have online skills, because you can’t sell what you don’t have.

Some of the more common skills that are easily sellable online are writing, office administration and graphic design skills.

The more common online jobs would include, Virtual Assistance, writing, translating, software programming and development, graphics and web design, online advertising and marketing, apps development, customer service, data analysis, and accounting.

There are a ton of jobs and opportunities out there for these basic office jobs that you would normally apply for in the real world that you can also do online.

Don’t panic if you can’t relate to the jobs listed above, you can also do blogging, produce information for products that are existing online, e-commerce or become an online entrepreneur.

Chances are if you are already working or employed in real life, there are ways to upgrade your office skills to make them digital skills.

The challenge is opening your mind and preparing your skill set to be marketable and effective in the digital platform.

That is probably the hardest part of the digital nomad transformation finding that inner strength to take that leap and once you make that epic dive, paddle like crazy till you find your footing and score those legitimate online income streams.
